Some Brownsville students are happily spending the summer in school.
About 40 middle school boys from I.S. 392 participated in the Practice Makes Perfect program.
It is a city-funded summer program that pairs scholars from low-income neighborhoods with mentors who are four years older.
Many of the scholars focused their whole lives on learning how to play basketball, but this program is teaching them all about soccer and the World Cup, and inspiring them to learn about all different countries.
The program serves more than 300 students throughout the city. The high school mentors even get paid for their work.
