Brownsville is getting a new youth center where kids can work on reaching their dreams.
The Center for Community Alternatives Seeds to Roots Youth Action center is officially open. It's serving as a hub for programs like NeOn Works, Works Plus and more which were once spread all over the city.
"They get to develop trust with us, they get to talk to us about their problems...to have a space where they're empowered and they can be heard is a very different dynamic than being involved in a program for three or four months, then you move on and don't hear from them," said Youth Services Leadership Fellow at Center for Community Alternatives Patrick Stephens.
Youth leading some of the CCA programs say centers like this one change a community and change your outlook on who you can become.
"I wanted to give up so many times but all I have is my life, is my dreams and we're all here for a reason and whatever that reason it's your choice," said Janasia Davis.
"We have places to come where we can interact and learn our career paths more or like do stuff that benefits us instead of hurts us," said Iinitty Lawrence.
The center is located on Livonia and kids not enrolled in any programs are welcome to stop by any time.
