'Stay Safe. Stay Put.' is the new ad campaign the city Buildings Department is promoting when someone is stuck in an elevator.
The New York Daily News reports the campaign will be released in print, radio and video ads Wednesday.
Bronx resident Stephen Hewett-Brown, 25, was fatally crushed while trying to escape a stalled elevator on New Year's Eve in Manhattan.
Officials say five died and 51 were injured in elevator accidents last year, and say the worst deaths occurs when passengers try to save themselves.
Officials are encouraging passengers to push the emergency button. They are also telling passengers not to pry the doors open themselves, and do not jump up and down.
