A burglar broke into a synagogue on Hewes Street in Williamsburg early Saturday morning and stole hundreds of dollars, officials say.
Surveillance video shows a man looting between $500 and $1,000 from a cash register at the Galanta synagogue. A worker says that money came from both donations and membership fees.
The intrusion happened around 3:40 a.m. Saturday, during Shabbat, while most people were sleeping.
In the video, it appears that the burglar entered through the front entrance.
Police say they have no information on the burglary, and it is unclear whether it was reported to authorities.
