A coffee shop in Bushwick received a $25,000 check from News 12’s parent company, Altice USA, Optimum and the Coalition to Back Black Businesses for its dedication to help and serve the community.
Kymme Williams-Davis, owner of Bushwick Grind Café, says she already knows exactly where this money will go.
“We’re upgrading some of our machinery, we’re also able to hire new staff so we’ll have a new barista,” said Williams-Davis.
Bushwick Grind Café is one of two businesses given this grant, and qualified for it after being one of several who already received a $5,000 grant previously.
Williams-Davis was joined by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso outside of her business, where she was presented with an award for her commitment to the neighborhood.
“She’s come in and has really become a part of this community, a staple in this community,” said Reynoso.
Williams-Davis opened her café back in 2015 with an emphasis on serving drinks and food that are organic and vegan.
"Bushwick Grind Cafe is really a model of what it looks like to really be, not just a small business, but a local economic engine,” said Eric Henry, director of government affairs at Altice. "She increases positive foot traffic through the area, she's part of neighborhood beautification, she's part of making sure individuals across the neighborhood have something to eat."
The other business that received the $25,000 grant is a deli in Mississippi.
