With this year's Puerto Rican Day Parade being canceled due to the pandemic, residents in Bushwick are working to organize a virtual parade in hopes of carrying on the tradition.
Organizers and community members shot a promotional video for the parade Sunday. They say the event will be streamed live on several different platforms such as Facebook and YouTube and will include music performances and video messages for viewers.
Organizers say they hope that the virtual parade will put a smile on people's faces in a time where many people are facing challenges.
"We don't know how something like this could positively motivate someone. And just that basic, old-school New York style…we're creative and we just jump in and try to make things happen," says organizer Darma Diaz.
The virtual parade will be streamed on June 13.
