The United States Postal Service urged well-wishers to meet Christmas delivery deadlines as post offices endured the busiest mailing day of the year Monday.
Post offices expected nearly three times the average volume of mail. They also expected to see an increase of mail to troops overseas.
Lines wrapped around many Bronx post offices as customers readied packages and letters, but extra workers were on hand to handle the influx.
Officials say customers should take advantage of online options, such as printing labels and having their packages picked up at their home for free.
The deadlines to ensure on-time Christmas deliveries are Dec. 20 for first class and priority mail and Dec. 22 for express mail.
