With temperatures soaring toward 100 degrees, Con Edison has advice on how Bronx customers can keep cool without breaking the bank.
The utility company says air conditioners, lights and appliances should be turned off when no one is home.
Thermostats should also be set at 78 degrees. Con Ed says each degree lower causes a 6 percent increase in costs. When air conditioners are in use, all doors and windows should be closed to help the unit run more efficiently.
Con Edison also says using fans, instead of air conditioners, can drastically cut utility bills.
