The MTA is selecting creative minds to make artwork for new Metro-North stations coming to the Bronx. News 12 spoke with the MTA to learn more about what they are looking for.
The MTA has commissioned more than 50 works of art in subway and rail stations in the Bronx so far, and now they're adding more eye-candy for commuters.
"The artists will be creating works that speak to this place and the work will be for the people who use this place," says Sandra Bloodworth, the director of MTA Arts and Design.
East Bronx is slated to get four ADA-accessible Metro-North stations, including one in Hunts Point in which artwork will be integrated.
Bloodworth is inviting artists to submit their portfolios. Four finalists will be chosen per station to create design proposals. The new stations, also in Morris Park, Co-op City and Parkchester, are part of the Penn Station Access Project.
This will connect Penn Station to Metro-North's New Haven line drastically cutting commute times to the Bronx, Westchester and Connecticut. Assemblyman Kenny Burgos, who represents Hunts Point, says this is a chance for artists to show the best of the Bronx.
Artists have until March 4 to apply. The new stations are expected to be completed in 2027.
