It's National Get Yourself Tested Month and city leaders are doing their part to spread awareness about sexually transmitted diseases.
Volunteers across the city have been passing out packets with stickers, condoms and information on the resources available near you.
The goal of the campaign is to make people aware of their status. Officials say that some think there's a stigma about getting tested or they're scared of the results, but knowing is crucial to protecting yourself.
There will be an outreach group in Brooklyn on Monday. Council member Robert Cornegy will join volunteers at Restoration Plaza in Bed-Stuy where they will have a mobile medical unit on site for STD testing from 11 a.m. to noon.
