Park rangers at Floyd Bennett Field say local residents are using Brooklyn's camp grounds more this spring than in past years.

Rangers say many residents are unaware there are camping grounds in Brooklyn's airfield-turned-national park. Campers say the sky is dark and the grounds are located close to the beach, which make it an ideal place for enjoying nature. John Daskalakis, a district park ranger, says the economy could be forcing Brooklyn residents to stay close to home for vacations.

City dwellers can pay $50 for a three-night rental of camp space, which includes a picnic table, cooking ring and unlimited firewood. Campers must bring their own tents and food.
