Police say a Canarsie public school teacher was arrested Monday and accused of assaulting a 10-year-old student.

Moaz Mahmoud, 26, is accused of striking the boy on the left side of his face and shoving him during an argument.

Police sources tell News 12 the attack happened around 11 a.m. inside P.S. 276, located at 1070 East 83rd St.

Authorities say Mahmoud was arrested just over an hour later. He is charged with assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

News 12 reached out to the Department of Education and is awaiting a response.
