A Canarsie woman is working to bring the magic of movies back to the neighborhood where she grew up.
Eileen Baptistin Level is the founder and CEO of PaleFo Cinema.
A mural at the site of the historic Jerry Building on Rockaway Parkway will be used to show movies on a projection screen, where the audience will be able to sit and watch. Level's dream is to one day open an actual brick-and-mortar theater.
"For me, the movie space is magic," says Level. "It's something that gives people hope, gives them reason to dream, gives them reason to think beyond where they currently are."
A ribbon-cutting is being planned for later this month, where the community will be invited for the first showing.
