Candidates, lawmakers sound off on Mayor Adams' future
Candidates vying to become the next mayor of New York City are not holding back their thoughts on what should happen to current Mayor Eric Adams amid upheaval in his administration.
It's no surprise that Democrats running in June's primary want Adams out of office, with most either calling on him to resign or be removed by the governor.
Investor Whitney Tilson is one of those candidates calling on Adams to step down himself, echoing the statement coming from NYC City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.
Others, though, want Gov. Kathy Hochul to make a first-of-its-kind move to remove Adams from office. That includes former Comptroller Scott Stringer, who says Adams can't be trusted to lead the city. Former Bronx Assembly member Michael Blake also wants the mayor to be removed, citing the resignations of four deputy mayors from the Adams administration.
Not everyone wants immediate action, however. On the other side of the aisle, Republican City Council Minority Leader Joann Ariola is pointing to the upcoming election, saying voters should be left to decide who they want to lead NYC in the June Primaries, adding that process is a fundamental principle of democracy.
