Many residents are excited about a proposal to make a Williamsburg street open for pedestrians only. Residents compare Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg to Times Square in Manhattan because of its local attractions and tourism. That is why one Brooklyn artist is proposing to block Metropolitan Avenue and McCarren Park for pedestrians only. Emil Choski says his plan would make room for more green space and sculptures. Choski?s idea is being met with rave reviews by residents. One resident says a larger communal space would be great. The owner of Fornino Resturant says the proposal would enable them to install more outdoor seating. However, the manager of Vittoria Bakery says most of their business comes from drivers. Choski hopes ?car-free Bedford Avenue? will gain support from city and community officials.
