A mother and child are recovering Friday after getting hit by a car that blew through a red light at the corner of 4th Avenue and 21st Street, according to witnesses.
Police say the pair was en route to a nearby school when they were struck, leaving them both laid out on their backs. The victims were taken to Long Island College Hospital with minor scratches and bruises. Authorities did not ticket the driver, who remained at the scene after the accident.
The principal of the school says the traffic lights are often out of synch. He?s successfully pushed for the six ?pedestrians crossing? signs currently in the area and crossing guards, but he says more are needed. The Department of Transportation has one accident on record for the intersection over the past two years. That accident did not involve any pedestrians.
