A carjacking set off a wild chase through Crown Heights Saturday night, according to police and witnesses.
It all started shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Clinton Lawson, approached a black 2010 Toyota Corolla at Eastern Parkway by Utica Avenue and allegedly pulled out a gun.
Police say Lawson ordered the 64-year-old male driver and his female passenger out of the car on Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue.
The suspect then fled in the stolen car to Kingston Avenue, where he allegedly hit a 75-year-old male and a parked Mercedes-Benz. A witness says the suspect took off on foot, and a group of bystanders chased after him until he turned around and fired off two shots.
The suspect then allegedly carjacked a second vehicle, this time an SUV. Lawson allegedly took off down Sterling Avenue, where he crashed into two more parked cars before taking off on foot again.
Lawson then tried to flee on foot, and ran into a nearby home to hide. When the homeowner started yelling, Lawson went back outside and attempted to blend in with a crowd of people who had gathered, witnesses say.
Witnesses in the crowd pointed out Lawson to police, who arrested him without further incident.
Investigators say they have recovered a .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun.
