People might recognize Danny Mondello by his online nickname, "Cugine," where his cooking videos have racked up millions of views and followers on TikTok.
He's now he's spreading his love of Italian food to Williamsburg with the brick-and-mortar Casa Cugine, which is celebrating its first month in business on Graham Avenue.
"The response has been warm, its nice to see the people coming supporting because you never know I was online, I haven't owned a place before," Cugine said adding that he's always had a love for Italian food.
"I've worked in Deli's since I was 18, I'm 28 now so its something I always had in the back of my mind, long before TikTok," he said.
The restaurant features specialty paninis, Italian desserts and even a unique Diet Coke and espresso with cherry drink that fans of Cugine's, a known lover of Diet Coke, will need to try.
He tells News 12 its their version of the popular Manhattan special coffee and cola drink, brewed right around the corner on Manhattan Avenue.
As customers packed in, many wanted a chance to meet and take a photo with the man slicing up the sandwiches behind the counter.
It's a counter that once belonged to Cafe Capri, a neighborhood institution that Cugine says closed in 2015.
Vintage menus, photos and decor now line the walls of Casa Cugine next to references to "taking care and brushing your hair," and other popular catchphrases from Cugines TikTok's.
"It's an homage to the late great Cafe Capri," he said.
Cugine says his top seller is is the 'Hey Toots' sandwich with roast turkey, soppressata and veggies toasted up and served on a hero bun.
"It's all class," Cugine said.
