Starting July 10, the George Washington Bridge has completely moved to only electronic cashless toll collections.

Drivers looking to cross the Hudson River from New Jersey into New York will now go through an electronic tolling system, instead of stopping to pay cash.

The move from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is meant to limit congestion at the bridge, especially at times of high-volume traffic. 

It is also meant to renew, upgrade and rehabilitate bridge crossings in the tri-state area. 

It is the biggest and busiest Hudson River Crossing to have the new cashless tolling system implemented. 

Drivers without an E-ZPass can still travel on the bridge, but instead of paying cash, they will have their license plates photographed by overhead cameras and toll bills sent to them by mail.
