A husband and wife were robbed at gunpoint inside their restaurant last week. Sources say it is part ofa violent string of crime in the City of Newburgh over the last few days.
News 12 obtained exclusive surveillance video showing the horrifying moments as the husband and wife were held at gunpoint inside The Patio Restaurant on Lake Street.
Co-owner Cesar Cabus spoke off camera about the ordeal after News 12 received a tip about the armed robbery and stopped by. He is seen hovering over his wife to protect her from getting hurt.
Cabus says a masked man with sunglasses came in as they were closing, demanded money from the register and held them at gunpoint to get away with $600.
Sources tell News 12 the violence in the City of Newburgh continued through the weekend with multiple shootings and a stabbing on Lander Street.
Police confirm that a man was stabbed in the neck by someone he knew around 4 p.m. Saturday.
People in the area are saddened by the ongoing crime plaguing the city - despite community and law enforcement efforts to curb the violence.
"The young kids just need to come together," said a resident working in the neighborhood.
City officials have not responded to News 12 requests for information about the armed robbery or shootings.
Authorities have faced scrutiny in recent weeks for allegedly covering up crime in an effort to improve the city's image to attract business, investors and prospective homebuyers.
