Students at Celia Cruz High School for Music marked International Women's Day by learning about their school's namesake.
The students from the Bronx school, along with college students, worked together to honor the legendary Latin artist.
"We are spending the month of March collaborating with 31 schools named for women, for the biggest state-wide collaboration for Women's History Month," said Associate Dean of Alfred University Dan Napolitano. The statewide tour is in New York City this week.
The students all painted parts of a mosaic that would be all put together to create a portrait of Cruz. The artwork put together will be added to a larger mural at the end of the month.
The program will honor other women, which include Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosa Parks.
