The man who police say stabbed his coworker at a Suffolk pizzeria will face an attempted murder charge.

The Suffolk District Attorney announced Friday a grand jury indicted 34-year-old Paul Albinagorta, of Central Islip, on attempted murder, among other charges. 

Police say he stabbed 60-year-old Salvatore Polizzi several times from behind without warning with a hunting knife on Nov. 25 at Ginos of Nesconset. 

The Suffolk DA says Albinagorta bought the hunting knife he used in the attack the day before at an Islandia Walmart, and investigators say he began chasing the victim and other employees out of the store with the knife after the attack. 

Albinagorta's defense attorney previously told News 12 his client was trying to defend himself during a dispute. 

The victim, Salvatore Polizzi, underwent emergency surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital the day of the attack.

His daughter, Taylor Gonzalez, now tells News 12 her dad underwent at least one six-hour surgery and has a long road to recovery ahead.

"Post surgery, we have to see how and what the recovery looks like based on the staples, and internally,” she said.

Gonzalez says her dad's condition varies by the day and is just happy to have him around for the holidays.

"To know that potentially he could eat with us for the holidays with Christmas coming around, that's my miracle. That's my Christmas miracle. That's all I want," said Gonzalez.

Albinagorta is due back in court on Jan. 7.
