Charles Barron defeated Chris Banks to win the Democratic primary for the state Assembly's 60th District.
The seat was vacated by his wife, Inez, who is currently a City Council member.
There was a lot of positive energy and a general sense of confidence as campaign volunteers awaited results Tuesday night at Barron's campaign headquarters.
Barron will move on to face the Republican challenger in the general election in November.
