The monthlong FIFA Club World Cup wrapped Sunday afternoon in East Rutherford with Chelsea F.C. taking the crown as champions, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0.
This was the last of eight games in East Rutherford. Sunday was a sellout crowd and an important final dress rehearsal as the focus now shifts to next year’s FIFA World Cup, where New Jersey will again be the center of global attention.
There was excitement in the air hours before kickoff as soccer fans from all over the world descended upon East Rutherford. News 12 spoke with fans from China, France and Turkey.
The crowd was split, but at the end of the day, football is family for these fans.
Among the 80,000 in attendance were President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump. There was a heavy security detail to enter the stadium, including Secret Service.
