The manufacturing industry in Northern Brooklyn is getting more space and funds thanks to the city.
The city has allocated $4 million to develop another industrial center in Williamsburg. The Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center will use the funds to buy and renovate a 72,000-square foot building that will house 25 businesses. The new industrial center will create jobs for more than 100 residents. Some of the tenants that will occupy the facility include wood workers, food manufacturers and garment companies.
Manufacturers say it is imperative to keep the jobs in the borough. Local officials say this project is a step towards keeping the history of manufacturing in Brooklyn?s waterfront.
