The City Council held a joint hearing today to examine the NYPD's enforcement of traffic rules and its accident response.
At the meeting, elected officials and family members who lost loved ones to traffic incidents, testified about traffic enforcement in the city.
Councilman James Vacca (D-District 13), who organized the hearing, said that he wants hit-and-run drivers vigorously prosecuted.
"Special attention is made in ensuring that enforcement efforts are focused on hazardous traffic violations," said Deputy Chief John Cassidy, of the NYPD's Transportation Bureau.
In the past three months, two people have been killed by hit-and-run drivers in The Bronx.
