Members of the City Council are calling on Mayor Bill de Blasio to add funding to next year's budget to help make city streets cleaner.
The members say $4.2 million was included in this year's budget and helped city streets receive an acceptably clean rating of nearly 96 percent.
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Sanitation Committee chair Antonio Reynoso say the money could add 14,000 additional trash pickups per week by the Sanitation Department.
They say that the city should be moving forward, not backward when it comes to bettering neighborhoods throughout the city.
The budget for the 2020 fiscal year will be up for a vote in July.
News 12 reached out to the mayor's office for comment and is awaiting a response.
