City Harvest, the first and largest food rescue organization in New York City, now calls Brooklyn home after recently moving their headquarters to Sunset Park.
For the first time in City Harvest's 40-year history, the new center will unite all of its operations under one roof with the goal of tackling food insecurity.
Staff says food pantries and soup kitchens are seeing a 70% increase in visits compared to before the pandemic. The new space will allow them to distribute twice as much food across the city.
The group says it hopes to rescue and deliver 75 million pounds of food this year.
