As a Brooklyn community mourns the death of a 5-year-old boy who jumped out of a stuck elevator, city officials are looking into the cause of the accident.

On Wednesday, crews from the New York Housing Authority arrived at 70 Clymer St. to run a series of tests on the elevator that ground to a halt Tuesday morning between the 10th and 11th floors while Jacob Neuman and his brother were inside.

In attempt to escape the elevator, Neuman jumped out and plummeted 10 stories to his death.

Neighbors say the elevator was supposed to be fixed or replaced altogether years ago, and records show that residents complained about the faulty elevator for a long time.

Four inspections that were conducted by the New York City Department of Buildings between 2006 and 2007 found the state of the elevator unsatisfactory.

Councilman David Yassky?s office states that the lack of federal funding for public housing is causing buildings like the one on Clymer Street to be neglected by the city.
