The mayor calls the initiative PATH Forward, which stands for Partners Against the Hate.
"The initiative is called PATH Forward because it's all about where we go from here," the mayor says. "How we get this hate out of our lives and move forward together as a city."
The program includes a $3 million investment in community organizations to fight hate crimes.
De Blasio says the city cannot combat hate crimes with just policing, but that solidarity between communities is also crucial.
