City Council members say they have an alternative to Mayor Bloomberg's (R-NYC) plan to reduce the number of cars on the road in Brooklyn and the rest of the city.A group of seven City Council members drafted a letter to the mayor that asks for an increase in ferry, bus and railroad service headed into Manhattan. Their hope, they say, is for transit options to provide a 30-minute commute into Manhattan from any point in the city.Mayor Bloomberg previously suggested congestion pricing, where commuters entering Manhattan would be charged $8 during specified hours of the day. The City Council members said they are open to the idea, but feel it's immature since many commuters don't have real transit options.The Daily News reported that a spokesman for the mayor said the city is expanding mass transit but it would be impossible for everyone to have a commute of 30 minutes or less.
