More than a dozen secondary schools are expected to open in Brooklyn under a new plan by the city.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg was in Williamsburg Wednesday to announce the new initiative, which would bring 14 new secondary schools to the borough. Both the mayor and schools chancellor say the new initiative will bring smaller class sizes and provide mentors to students in under-served communities.
The mayor says more than 149 secondary schools have opened citywide in the last three years. He says the schools accommodate more than 50,000 students.
