In preparation for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that all New York City schools will be closed tomorrow and that residents in the low-lying Zone A must evacuate.
The closings and evacuation follow the earlier order from Gov. Andrew Cuomo that MTA service will be suspended tonight. All subway service stopped at 7 p.m., with bus service ending at 9 p.m. The East River ferry suspended service at 5 p.m., though the Staten Island ferry will remain open until further notice.
Bloomberg says a decision will be made Monday on whether schools will remain closed through Tuesday.
