New York City officials are introducing new street changes in Greenpoint after the community suffered multiple losses -- including a Brooklyn teacher -- at a busy intersection.
Neighborhood residents say cars often blow past a traffic light on McGuinness Boulevard while trying to make it onto the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, putting pedestrians in a risky situation.
The city is making a $39 million change with Vision Zero funding to help make the streets safer.
By next year, there will be new stop signs and crosswalks throughout the area. The road will be redesigned.
A community teach-in will be hosted next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in McGoldrick Park.
News 12 has reached out to the mayor's office and the Department of Transportation for comment.
