Dozens of volunteers rolled up their sleeves Tuesday in Williamsburg to pack up emergency food for the elderly.
Citymeals-on-Wheels wants to make sure homebound elderly residents are taken care of with winter around the corner. Thanks to the program, 18,000 people all around the city receive special deliveries year-round.
Each box weighs around 20 pounds and holds about 12 meals for each recipient.
Hollywood and Broadway actress Kathleen Turner was among the volunteers filling up boxes with non-perishables. Turner, who is a board member of Citymeals, says the organization is serving 1,000 more people than last year.
