Arrests were made in Manhattan Thursday night after a peaceful protest quickly escalated between officers and demonstrators on the second straight night of protests.

Authorities say people gathered at Stonewall and made their way through the city.

A video from the Citizen App shows hundreds of people taking to the streets in protest.

Participants marched to show support of transgender lives, Black Lives Matter, as well as for awareness of police brutality and protection of election results.

There was a heavy police presence during the protest, and clashes erupted between protesters and officers.

Dozens of people posted videos on social media, describing their experiences with police at the protests. Some claim that officers charged at protesters with their bikes while wearing riot gear.

News 12 was told people were forced to disperse or were faced with getting arrested.

The NYPD says one of its officers was pushed to the floor as a man tried to strangle him with a chain. That man was taken into custody and charged with assault and criminal procession of a weapon.

Authorities say 18 people were arrested Thursday night, and that some of them were given summonses and released.
