Cleanup efforts are underway after a boom truck overturned in Brooklyn, crashing into a building and a parked van.
The incident happened Tuesday on Glenwood Road in Flatbush. Two people were injured and taken to the hospital.
According to the New York City Department of Buildings, the truck overturned while making deliveries of roofing materials. Its extended boom struck a parked vehicle and impacted the parapet wall and roof of a nearby building.
City officials have issued three violations to New Castle Building Projects, the company that owns the boom truck. The violations include unsafe hoisting, using an unlicensed operator and failure to have certified riggers.
A licensed master rigger and a professional engineer have been brought in to develop a recovery plan for safely removing the overturned truck. The plan must be approved by the DOB’s Cranes and Derricks Unit before work can begin. Inspectors will be present to oversee the removal process, which is expected to take place during daylight hours.
Glenwood Road remains partially blocked as officials continue their investigation into what caused the boom truck to tip over.
The company responsible for the truck has not yet responded to requests for comment.
