Clinton Hill residents are condemning a developer?s plan to demolish a Victorian-era mansion and build condos in its place.
The Lefferts Place Civic Association is spearheading a petition drive to save the 15-bedroom house at 70 Lefferts Place. Neighbors want the Landmarks Preservation Commission to deem the home a historic site. Residents are also worried construction will be noisy, dirty and the developer will not adhere to zoning regulations.
Developer Chris Morris counters that the inside of the home is dilapidated and its sprawling design, complete with seven fireplaces, is out of touch with current housing needs. However, he says he plans to use pieces from the home to complete the condos.
