Elderly and disabled residents in Co-op City may have an easier time getting in and out of their buildings.
The Riverbay Board of Directors has vowed to make installing automatic doors on their lobby doors a top priority. Some residents say the existing doors are too heavy to open, making it difficult for them to come and go from their buildings.
The management company says the doors will not be installed unless the buildings are running a budget surplus, but it says that thanks to an increase in maintenance fees, it is confident that it will have the $80,000 to install the doors next year.
