A memorial service was held on Monday in Camden County for former New Jersey Gov. Jim Florio.
Florio, 85, died just over a week ago. He served as governor from 1990 to 1994.
“He was the embodiment of ethical public service,” said Inspira Health CEO Amy Mansue. “His moral compass always pointed north.”
Florio, a high school dropout, grew up in New York City. He began his law career in Camden County and represented the area in Congress for 16 years before he became governor.
“I always thought he wasn't the greatest politician – he was the greatest statesman,” said Florio’s law partner Mike Perucci.
All living former governors attended Florio’s service, including the two Republicans who beat Florio for the state's top job in tight elections in 1981 and 1993.
