Community Board 1 is seeking to turn a historic church into a landmark, but parishioners say they aren't happy about it.
The Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Williamsburg has been a religious haven for many Ukrainian Catholics for decades.
Community Board 1 recently asked the city to preserve the building on South Fifth Street by awarding the location landmark status, according to reports.
Those same reports say parishioners aren't happy, suggesting that the cost of maintaining the church under the new status would be too steep for the congregation.
However, board members say the church's upkeep would be funded by the state.
Ultimately, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission will make the final decision.
