Dozens of students, parents and other community members gathered at Mott Hall Bridges Academy Middle School today for the 'She Is Me Hairfest’ event.
This event is meant to encourage girls to appreciate their own beauty.
Organizers say this is especially important for African-American girls to learn to celebrate their natural hair.
The event features sessions on hair care, black culture related to hair and the history of different hair styles.
Organizers say they hope to continue the event for years to come, inspiring a new generation of girls to love themselves and their hair.
This event also functions as a group that meets throughout the school year.
