Local leaders are taking a stand against what they say has so far been a violent summer in Brooklyn.
The Lay The Guns Down Foundation is hosting the Safe Summer Community Family Fun Day at Herbert Von King Park in Bedford-Stuyvesant. The day was filled with games, raffles and guest speakers.
The goal is to guide children in the borough down the right path while raising awareness about anti-violence efforts. It's meant to be a safe way to keep youth busy, off the streets and out of trouble. Children were also shown what community resources are available to them in Brooklyn.
June may have marked the end of Gun Violence Awareness Month, but organizers say they are looking to rid all forms of violence year-round.
There are also workshops with NYPD officers, and information on more family events taking place throughout the rest of the summer.
