The Crown Heights community came together Wednesday to light the tree at Medgar Evers College.
Aside from actually lighting the tree, the event also included performances and speeches that recognized not only Christmas, but also Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and all of the holidays.
The event aims to bring the diverse community together.
This is the first time an official tree lighting has taken place at the college.
Organizers say the tree is a worldwide symbol of all of the holidays. They say the event is about spreading joy and peace among family and friends.
