Community members in Allerton say that a group of cats has been stuck inside a closed down laundromat since August.
Resident German Santos says he heard an unusual sound while walking his dog near a boarded-up laundromat on Astor Avenue.
Santos says those cries ended up being four cats.
“I thought they were coming in and out and there was a hole back there. But they weren’t coming out,” said Santos.
Months later, he says the cats are still inside and he’s teamed up with fellow animal lover Roxanne Delgado to bring the animals food.
News 12 spoke to a member of the family that owns the building and they released a statement saying, "The owners of the building are working with the neighborhood organization, Bronx Park East Community Association, and the NYPD's 49th Precinct to resolve the situation.”
Delgado says she recently contacted the local precinct who said they would be sending officers to investigate along with animal control. However, concerned neighbors say they are worried that the kittens might not make it out alive.
Santos says he’ll continue taking care of his new furry friends until they are freed.
