New York's bravest are mourning the loss of one of their own today following a massive warehouse fire in Bushwick.

Lt. Richard Nappi, 47, was battling a three-alarm blaze on Flushing Avenue when he overheated, suffered exhaustion and collapsed. Nappi was rushed to Woodhull Medical Center, but the Long Island resident did not survive.

Today, three of Nappi's closest comrades hung purple and black bunting outside Engine Company 237 on Morgan Avenue, where Nappi worked for the past four years. The ceremony was followed by a moment of silence.

Nappi's captain and fellow firefighters described the 17-year FDNY veteran and Sept. 11 first responder as a family man who loved his job.

Neighbors say they are saddened by the news of Nappi's death, but also appreciative of his sacrifice.

Nappi leaves behind a wife and two children.
