Con Edison crews were working to restore power to about 2,000 customers Sunday after high electrical usage sparked outages.
By midday Sunday, Con Ed has restored power to about 600 customers. The outages mainly affected Borough Park and Sunset Park.
"We were all sleeping and our air conditioning and everything went out ? refrigerator out, everything out," said Alan Hernandez.
According to Hernandez and other residents, their power went out around 6 a.m., which meant no air conditioning, and the unbearable heat only got worse as the day went on.
Con Ed set up an emergency staging area at 36th Street and Fifth Avenue. Crews were as far out as Bay Ridge in case of power outages there.
Customers who lose electricity are urged to contact Con Ed at 1-800-75-Con-Ed.
