A new report from a federal monitor has once again raised the concerns from advocates and New Yorkers on the current state of city jails.

According to the report, the jails are still "dangerous" and pose "risk of harm" to both people in custody and staff, adding that the Department of Correction's efforts to address security and transparency issues have been "limited and ineffective".

The monitor also points out one especially violent week that took place in the jails from Sept. 11 to Sept. 17, where 145 uses of force by staff, 12 stabbings, and 34 assaults on staff took place.

News 12 has reached out to the Department of Correction for comment on this report and is awaiting a response.
