Some patrons of Coney Island?s famous boardwalk fear neglect could lead to nasty falls.
Gaps and holes have caused runners to trip and they?re worried about children, wheelchair-bound people and people with canes getting hurt. One woman says she fell, hit a nail and got splinters in her clothes. However, patrons say they?re not ready to give up on the beautiful boardwalk by the water.
The Parks Department spent $500,000 to repair a section between W. 10th and W. 12th streets in May, but says it doesn?t have the money for a complete overhaul. Officials also say workers regularly repair the boardwalk.
