This October will mark the two-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, and one Coney Island church is still reeling from the damage.
Coney Island Cathedral Christian Church, located on Mermaid Avenue, sustained heavy damage after 9 feet of water swept through it.
Bishop Waylyn Hobbs says that the main sanctuary is still nothing but brick walls with exposed wiring.
Despite the conditions, the church has still continued to provide food and clothing to those in need in the community.
Church officials say they have not been able to receive money from the federal government since, by law, FEMA cannot give money to churches. Instead, the church is trying to raise funds so they can continue to rebuild. The bishop says the church needs $400,000 to look like it did before Sandy.
